7 days until the Galaxy lands at OKC

Oh and my mum too of course! ;-)

We had a chat tonight and I initially told her not to bring any last week and then said bring two a few days ago. Well tonight I just told her to bring as much as she can and partly blamed Pamokc's upcoming weekend visit as we'll have another Brit in da house, with her Hubster.

When oh when are they going to import Galaxy to the USA?!

This happened to me on Saturday!

If you are a lover of the new McDonalds Iced Coffee's then you need to take note of this information.

I really like them and so last Saturday as we headed into town I picked up a regular flavour large and proceeded to drink my way through it all morning. In the early afternoon we went to eat at a place we often go to and I had my usual salad bar and grilled chicken. Almost immediately upon finishing I was hit by the dreaded diarrhea and at the time I thought 'I can't believe anything I just ate reacted that fast!'

This unfortunately continued for the rest of the day and I had to start chewing Pepto Bismal to stop it, so we could even make the 25 minute drive home!

I have had an email sent to me by Stacy for a few days and just now had the time to read it. Turns out the culprit for my bowel problems was probably that McDonalds Iced Coffee!

So if you like this drink too, then I strongly suggest you go HERE and read all about the positively scary ingredients. I can certainly vouch for their effects and will now be steering well clear!

Oh and I have just been to McDonalds.com and made a complaint by email as they need to know they are making people sick!

One of my least fave things about the USA!

And I truly can't really believe I am writing this about any CHOCOLATE of all things, but "good grief" Hersheys chocolate is just plain nasty!

Y'all have my sympathies having to grow up thinking this was good chocolate, unless you have ever tasted European chocolate, then you have no idea how good it can be. I bought a bag of the Hersheys Nuggets last week and could barely get one down. Today I got in from work and fancied a small chocolate 'hit' and this was all I had in, so I gave it another go. Ewww I actually spat chocolate in the trash can (truly astounding) and gave it up as a bad job!

I have found that the 'Dove' brand tastes somewhat like European chocolate. But if you really want to taste awesome chocolate then buy yourself either some Lindt (Swiss) or Green & Black's Organic - both available in your local Walmart. Otherwise any Belgian chocolate would be a good alternative or Cadburys over here isn't bad, but it's still different to the European version.

My all time fave chocolate is either 'Lindt' or the 'Galaxy' brand, which I haven't found available to buy here yet. So I have to rely on visitors from the UK bringing it for me, as mailing it doesn't do it any good!

All I can say is you are being seriously short changed as a nation in the chocolate department!

Essentials I always ask visiting Brit's to bring #2

Galaxy Chocolate is something I definitely do not need, but still always ask visitors to bring from home!

On my first visit to meet the Hubster and his family, I bought some with me for his adult children. We were all due to go out to eat, but middle child (age 22 at the time) managed to consume the complete large bar as pictured before we even left…LOL! Oh yes it is that popular with my step kids and always requested when ‘Mamma Grande’, as they reverently call my Mum, is expected over here.

I got all excited last year when ‘Dove’ chocolate was launched here, as the packaging looks so like Galaxy – but alas Galaxy it is not! But I bet I wasn’t the only Brit’ here thinking “Blimey O’Riley it’s Galaxy!”, what a letdown that was.

It doesn’t mail well from home, even in a padded mailer, the last 2 times we tried it arrived with an off putting white coating all over it, from melting and then hardening again. So I either have to buy it in Amarillo (just 3 weeks now to A-Day) or wait for UK visitors to descend on us. I have some due here in October and hope to have reached my Weightwatchers goal by then, so I can indulge!

If you have never had Galaxy Chocolate you can have no idea of it’s delectable, rich, creamy, velvety, smooth, cocoanessy (now there’s a Brit’ word for you huh!) as it hits the ‘c-spot’ all us girls have.

Maybe after Amarillo I’ll have a competition to win a bar. I think it’ll mail okay within US borders, although it might not make it past your Postmistress!

Keeping up my end in Okieland!

I am proud to announce I have now eaten that great British tradition, a cucumber sandwich for 4 days in a row.

Why - I hear ya' wondering?

Well I unearthed an English Cucumber in Wally World and I love them.

For my tastes it has to be made on white bread (light version of course), with a buttery spread (light of course!), a sprinkling of salt over the thinly sliced cucumber and no cream cheese for me.

For the connossieurs out there:

No I don't peel the cucumber or remove the crusts off the bread, I like the equivalent of a 'common' cucumber sandwich I guess!

So in case you have ever wondered if this is just a British myth, no we really do eat them and like them.

Deeeeelicious :-)

Essentials I always ask visiting Brit's to bring #1

Don't ask me why but none of the American stock cubes, beef concentrate or beef broth available is as good as that old Brit' faithful - OXO!

I have tried many different ones, the chicken versions seem alright, but the beef just does not come up to scratch.

When I use them in dishes, I get lots more compliments , so I don't think it's just me?

First success with seeds....

My Hubster eats 2 jars of Salsa a week - HE IS a Salsa Addict!

He started making his own fiery concoction but with the cost of tomatoes, it's cheaper to buy it at the rate he eats it. So we have decided we need to grow our own tomatoes to solve this problem and then we can do some bottling and have a year round supply! We already have 'his' perfect hot Salsa recipe good to go.

I have tried to grow them here before, but the year I tried we had a drought and hardly anyone around here got a crop, so I was slightly put off.

Anyway I bought some seeds and a little sprouting box and planted them a week ago. Yesterday we woke up to find tomato plants sprouting all over :-)

Next I have to give them a little sun and in a few days thin them out and then transfer them to individual pots to grow on. We did have some wonderful old tomato cages from the previous owner of our house, but last year I sold them after the previous failure!

If you have any good tomato plant tips, please share them so I can grow a healthy crop and keep the Hubster in Salsa!

Tea that hits the spot!

Just like most Brit's, I am more than a bit of a tea addict!

I currently start everyday with a cup of hot Twinings Earl Grey, although only because I have gone through my stash of PG Tips Pyramid teabags until I get to Amarillo in a couple of weeks. I then follow it up with 2 cups of herbal tea during the day, enjoy iced tea with supper and often the Earl Grey squeezes in during the evening.

A friend gave me a new herbal tea to try recently (thanks Sher') and I am totally addicted to it. Unlike alot of herbal tea's that smell fabulous but often all taste pretty similar, this has a 'well developed body' (Brit' phrase) and tastes as good as it smells.

Ok enough preamble.....Celestial Seasonings Bengal Spice (the one with a Tiger on the box), available from Walmart.

It's flavours include Cinnamon, Chicory, Carob, Vanilla, Ginger, Cardamom, Black Pepper, Cloves and Nutmeg. If you like slightly spicy stuff or Asian Indian food as I do, this might also be your new addiction! It is delicious hot or iced, although I tend to drink it hot as the spices in it make it a really warming tea, even for my permanently cold feet!

I took the piccie with one of the very old teacups left to me by my Grandma....each cup is a different pastel colour and I just adore them, but it's just as good in a mug!

I just have to ask why?

As a foreigner, and I have another imported friend locally who I have discussed this with who feels the exact same way....

Why would you want to put batter on a perfectly good steak for goodness sake and call it a Chicken Fried Steak?

I have tried to eat one on a few occasions, most successfully at the Flying W Ranch. But do I really enjoy a Chicken Fried Steak, a resounding NO!

I have no doubt there are baffling things we do with food too, but this so far is perhaps the one I least understand here......especially as all your steak is generally good quality!

Although Calf Fries come a very close second - and NO I have never tried them and will never be persuaded to either!!

Homemade Berry Smoothie

Well I figured I need to get as many anti-oxidants as possible in today, so I made the following delicious smoothie for just 6 Weightwatcher points.

I eat a cup (WW 1pt) of Dole Frozen Wild Blueberries every single day, usually with cereal. The wild blueberries have been proven to have 50% higher concentrates of anti-oxidants and Dr Oz was only saying we should all eat blueberries on Oprah last week :-) Oh and I should mention here, what Dr Oz says, I usually do - that man is a health god!

1 cup of Blueberries (or any berry)
1 cup 2% Milk
1 cup Breyers Fat Free Vanilla Ice Cream

Whack it all in the blender, give it a whiz and hey presto a delicious WW 6pt healthy snack....enjoy!

WW fave food tips

This week I found 2 new products that will satisfy my chocolate cravings and keep me good with my WW points.

The first one is a 1pt treat for 3 cakes! 'Hostess 100 Calorie Packs - Chocolate Cake with Creamy Filling'.....these are yummy girls. First of all the chocolate is like cupcake topping chocolate, soft & squidgy, the sponge is moist and the cream filling is great. They are a real treat for any sweet tooth for just 1pt!

The second treat is the new '3 Musketeers Mint' for 3pts for both bars in the pack, or 1.5pts for just one & save the other for later. I love chocolate & mint, the outside is delicious dark chocolate with the fluffy light traditional 3 Musketeers filling flavoured with mint.

I would like to extend a big "Thank You" to my crazy friend Becky for tipping me off on these great chocolate treats for low points.
