My World - Renovation

As most of you know, the Hubster and I have become big HGTV fans this summer. And so of course this finally led to a full-scale 'Labor' weekend renovation!

The Utility room was the last in our home needing to be 'done over'. It was still the odd creamed mushroom colour the whole house was when we moved in almost 4 years ago. The flooring was the last of the lino' we had to remove or cover in a few rooms.

First up was the paint job, I just don't do cream in any shade, so it was in with the colour, a nice subtle warm shade. I enjoy painting walls, but the windows were the proverbial pain in the rear!

The Hubster went to it with the flooring, which is the same as the one he laid in the adjoining kitchen a few months ago. He is rapidly becoming a dab hand at flooring!

Our view looking through from the kitchen is now much more pleasing to the eye and well worth our hard work.

Our finished weekend renovation project looks great, is done before winter and has improved this area significantly. Anyone going out into our yard goes through this room, so it's nice to finally have it looking presentable.

Doing a little labo(u)r of our own

Hope everyone is having a fun Labor Day weekend, after a day of relaxation, today we start on another home project.

It's time to do something about our small but useful Utility room. The paint and flooring is purchased, so we are spending today getting as much done as we can. Of course this means moving out the Washer and Dryer, always a hassle but necessary. Unless of course we want to go with the really classy option and just paint around them ;-)

If it all turns out as expected, piccies tomorrow!

Skywatch Friday

'Endless Cloudscape'

One of the things I love best about the huge skies in Okieland, days when huge cotton ball clouds sail in a deep blue sky.

Brit Word of the Day

Todays BWOTD brings back childhood memories:

"She dropped a clanger"

Clanger = a blunder or faux pas.

This is widely used throughout the UK and all Brits would know what it means.

But the childhood memory goes back to a very popular childrens show named 'The Clangers'. Watching it now, I have to wonder if the person who came up with it had been smoking some waccy-baccy!! The real action starts at about 1min 30secs, remember a whole generation was influenced by this show!

The show has nothing to do with the 'blunder' meaning.

I'll have some H2O please!

It seems one of the words us Brits have the most difficulty with is 'water' in the USA! I have had to change the whole way I pronounce it, otherwise I just get blank stares or a repeated "sorry, what was that?".

Well I was pleased to see it isn't just me on Saturday, when Ross asked for 'water' and got the exact same response. In fact he made three attempts to ask for it, before an American had to ask for him as it became farcical!!

You see us Brits say "WARTER" and here you say "WATTER". I have learned to say it the American way, but every now and then I will forget and totally flummox a server!

A friend suggested tonight that I ask for H2O, but I'm really not sure that wouldn't get even more blank looks! Oh the trials and tribulations of being a Brit abroad.
